The Bourne Identity (Jason Bourne #1)

Image
The Bourne Identity (Jason Bourne #1) By   Robert Ludlum My Rating: 3 Genre: Mystery, Thriller Finished on: Sep 20, 2018 This was probably my first time reading a spy-fiction novel. And I'll be honest, it took me some time to get adjusted to the writing. I watched the movie first and decided to read the book (obviously) to know which one was better. I'm not even sure why they said the movie is "based on" the book. In reality, it's only "Inspired" from it. Apart from the main idea that a man with amnesia is trying to figure out who he really is while there are men who want him dead, the rest of plot was completely different, and needless to say, I like the book one better.

The Rose of Fire (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books #2.5)

The Rose of Fire (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books #2.5) by   Carlos Ruiz Zafón My Rating: 4/5 Genre: Historical Fiction, Fantasy, Mystery Finished on: 7th Sep, 2018 A short and a compelling story of how  The Cemetery of Forgotten Books  came into existence. Though it consists of just a few pages but it's worth a read. Quite a bed time story I must say. Undoubtedly, Carlos yet again didn't fail to surprise me with the beautiful narration which will sweep you off your feet and into the land where the story is based upon. And not to forget the moment when the title of this book was illustrated through words. And I find it so interesting that the plans of the construction of the Labyrinth landed upon the hands of a translator (Raimundo de Sempere) , who might possibly be the ancestor of Sempere? And if he is, then don't the Sempere Sons and Daughters become sole heirs of  The Cemetery of Forgotten Books  ? Oh and not forgetting the wiser man (whoever he was) w...

The Prisoner of Heaven (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #3)

The Prisoner of Heaven (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #3) By  Carlos Ruiz Zafón ,   Lucia Graves My Rating: 3 Genre: Mystery, Historical Fiction, Fantasy Finished on: Sep 7th, 2018 Okay this book got me in a state of profound confusion. The instances which happened in the previous book were changed a bit in this one, and I'm not sure what really happened? But let's wait, maybe the final book will answer all my questions. Apart from that, the book took abrupt changes but I won't complain since the story was divided into 5 parts for a reason. The introduction of the mysterious person in the beginning (Prisoner Salgado) which led to Fermin's story before he met Daniel. And the story told us how he met David Martin there, and also the reason behind the death of Isabella (Oh, I so cannot wait to read the final book. I want to see the end of Maurico Valls). And the reference of the book The Count of Monte Cristo (Using which they could plan Fermin's escape from the pr...

The Angel's Game (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #2)

The Angel's Game            (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #2) By   Carlos Ruiz Zafón ,   Lucia Graves My Rating: 4 Genre: Historical Fiction, Mystery, Fantasy Finished on: 22nd Aug, 2018 I really underestimated this book. Took a good 40 days to finish this, reading every page taking my own sweet time, only to realise in the end I should have paid attention to the first half of the book. The ending was fast paced. There was so much to catch up on. The mysterious character Andreas Corelli pays a huge sum to David Martin, the protagonist, for writing a piece which no one should forget. And he agrees because he wanted to  live  . But there were many things which didn't add up. (Or maybe my mind forgot in those 40 days I took to finish this). How on earth did his illness get cured? And what exactly happened to Christina which lead to her death? The madness which some of the characters faced was beyond me. I had respected inspec...

A Fort of Nine Towers

A Fort of Nine Towers An Afghan Family Story By  Qais Akbar Omar My Rating: 5 Genre: Non fiction, Memoir, War Finished on: Aug 9th. 2018 "I have long carried this load of griefs in the cage of my heart. Now I have given them to you. I hope you are strong enough to hold them." -  Qais Akbar Omar I have no idea how strong I really was throughout the time I spend reading this wonderful piece. I picked this one up because Khaled Hosseini's review on the cover caught my eyes. And I knew, this is going to be equally as wonderful, amazing, and heartbreaking as Khaled Hosseini's books are. And honestly, this did not disappoint me. Living in another country I almost got a first hand experience of how life in Afghanistan has been. And Qais very thoughtfully divided his memoir into parts, wherein each part will give the reader a different experience altogether. Part one:   The Holy Warriors Describing their happiness of the arrivals of Mujahedeen who were supposed to brin...

Larkswood

Image
Larkswood By   Valerie Mendes My Rating: 3 Genre: Historical Fiction, Mystery Finished on: 25th Jul, 2018 I bought a bunch of books and made chits to decide which one to read first, and this happened to be the first that I should read Initially I was very interested. Something happened in 1897, something dark, something horrifying which tore a family apart? Very intriguing. What could it have been? The description of the events got me interested. The first few chapters were very gripping. But then later I felt the rest of the story could have been shortened to a few chapters. Instead they were dragged a lot. And though the plot was disappointing, I wouldn't say much on it because some stories just have to be. Though I felt awful that poor Harriet was left out in the whole story. Though what Edward and Cynthia did is unforgivable, but them ignoring Harriet throughout is worse. Was she not their sister? Despite her supporting Cynthia every moment, not leaving her side, pra...
