Larkswood
Larkswood

I bought a bunch of books and made chits to decide which one to read first, and this happened to be the first that I should read
Initially I was very interested. Something happened in 1897, something dark, something horrifying which tore a family apart? Very intriguing. What could it have been?
The description of the events got me interested. The first few chapters were very gripping. But then later I felt the rest of the story could have been shortened to a few chapters. Instead they were dragged a lot. And though the plot was disappointing, I wouldn't say much on it because some stories just have to be.
Though I felt awful that poor Harriet was left out in the whole story. Though what Edward and Cynthia did is unforgivable, but them ignoring Harriet throughout is worse. Was she not their sister?
Despite her supporting Cynthia every moment, not leaving her side, praying for her, tending to her and what not, and they couldn't even confide in her the things she has every right to know about.
I hated Edward from the start. After his meet with Simon I pretty much predicted the whole plot.
Cynthia was heartbroken from Isabelle's death but never let Harriet know about the existence of William. I was wondering, if anyone suffered the most in the story, it was just Harriet. And her behaviour towards Cynthia and Larkswood in general later on were completely justifiable.
Overall, just a one-time read I must say.
