Okay. What the Heck?
What even was this book about?
Honestly, when I bought this book, you know the reason why I bought it? Because the title seemed catchy. The description seemed catchy. I mean, why not? A haunted house with some history, and maybe his wife is also involved in it. Wow, wouldn't you wanna know the story behind the entire thing?
But Christopher did a pretty good job in telling us that.
When I started the book, I was hooked by it. Very gripping! What's wrong with the house? Tell me. I wanna know.
The Goodreads rating for the book is 2. I couldn't understand why. As the story is pretty amazing so far. I gave this book the benefit of my doubt and moved on.
Little did I know how the rest of book will turn out as.
Holly. Nadia. Joanna.
And what is wrong with this guy? Can't Conrad decide whom does he really love? And this house. He understands this house is haunted one moment, and tells Nadia she's being ridiculous the other moment when she points out the exact same thing to him. Can't you get your facts straight once and for all?
He kills a freaking lunatic guy (Eddie) and has no remorse over it. He's here ditching his own wife by being with Nadia, and accuses and curses her for being unfaithful to him.
If I was Alma, regardless of the story, I would murder this guy first. And forgive me if I did not read properly in the story but what was the significance of Joanne's face being in the Album? Did Joanna and Alma have a same face by coincidence or did Alma have a second birth in the form of Joanna? And when the entire murder thing happened in the past, whoever might have discovered their bodies (at some point of time) did not hear the crying wails of the baby in the basement? You're telling me that?
Nobody found the baby otherwise the skeletons wouldn't have been there where Conrad found them.
And.. Honestly. I'm still clueless about so many things.
What did this Alma want? Babies? Or simply wanted them to die? Carrying out the deeds her "Docca Gunree" did!
How did Joanna miscarry? Who was the guy in the hotel with her, why was her entire life such a big mystery?
Did the Python snake really gave virgin birth to all those eggs?
And what even was the ending? His wife died and Alma took over her body, and he's... Simply embracing her?
*shakes my head to switch back to reality*
In my honest opinion, this story would have been such an amazing one had the ending not been screwed up so badly.
Sorry. It's 2/5 from my side.
