Hearts of Stone

Image
Hearts of Stone By   Simon Scarrow My Rating: 5 Genre: Historical Fiction, War Finished on: Jan 29th, 2020 Beautiful. Simply Beautiful.  Whenever I pick up any book based on war, it is me wanting my conscious self to have a realization of what has happened in the world, what has been happening in the world, and what could still happen in this world. How the war changes things, changes people, changes your priorities.  And this book did not disappoint me regarding that at all.  The war based books which I've read so far, the setting was either in France or Russia or Poland or Germany. And the brutal, horrifying things which occurred were pretty much the same. But the Greece's account in this book was a new insight to my existing knowledge. A complete new picture of how this war was dealt with. The fights in the hills, near the cliff, and amazing account of the submarine battle under the water, was beautifully described. Though I am not sure if I should...

Love, Rosie

Image
Love, Rosie By Cecilia Ahern My Rating: 4 Genre: Young Adult Finished On: 22nd Jan, 2020 Well, well. Cecilia Ahern doesn't disappoint me. Ever.  The last book I read from her was about 7 years ago, I was wondering if my reading taste might have changed or not, or whether I'd still enjoy this genre or not.  Turns out like I did enjoy!  Cecilia never fails to make me laugh. Never fails to make some of the points in the book hit right at home.  Although there were some parts in the book where I got bored, I admit, but the rest of the book is too good!  Rosie is amazing. Having had an extremely tough life, full of struggles, she managed to stay strong in every phase of her life. She managed to keep going on. If anyone must ever be truly dedicated in life (to survive, I mean), they should learn it from her.  From a 6 yo child to a 50 yo woman, she did not lose her energy and sense of humour at all.  You go Rosie!  Rosie had Katie. Alex married Sa...

The Time Traveler's Wife

Image
The Time Traveler's Wife By Audrey Niffenegger My Rating: 4 Genre: Science Fiction, Contemporary Finished On: Jan 15th, 2020 When I picked up this book, I imagined this book to be almost like a science fiction one. Protagonist, the time traveler, must be some scientist who discovered time travelling, and maybe this book is either about the adventures he has taken and shares with his wife, or the adventures both have taken together.  However, I did not anticipate what it will  reallyy  be about.  Jeez. Genetic disease? 🤕 I must say the author's thinking of considering time travelling as some sort of genetic disease is pure gold. It's completely different than the cliche time travelling via machines ones.  In those, you have complete control over the time and place you want to go. But in this case, you just go where your life, or perhaps, where you genetic body takes you. You have absolutely no control over it. And that is some challenge which Henry had to ...

The Birthing House

Image
The Birthing House By Christopher Ransom My Rating: 2 Genre: Horror, Mystery Finished on: Jan 12th, 2020 Okay. What the Heck?  What even was this book about?  Honestly, when I bought this book, you know the reason why I bought it? Because the title seemed catchy. The description seemed catchy. I mean, why not? A haunted house with some history, and maybe his wife is also involved in it. Wow, wouldn't you wanna know the story behind the entire thing?  But Christopher did a pretty good job in telling us that.  When I started the book, I was hooked by it. Very gripping! What's wrong with the house? Tell me. I wanna know.  The Goodreads rating for the book is 2. I couldn't understand why. As the story is pretty amazing so far. I gave this book the benefit of my doubt and moved on.  Little did I know how the rest of book will turn out as.  Holly. Nadia. Joanna.  And what is wrong with this guy? Can't Conrad decide whom does he really love? And th...

The Tattooist of Auschwitz

Image
The Tattooist of Auschwitz By Heather Morris My Rating: 4 Genre: Historical fiction, War Finished on: Jan 4th, 2020 Yet another story, a  true  story of WWII which moved me. Yet another insight I've got from another Holocaust survivor of how the war has been. Reading is the only way I can visualize the past through their eyes. Through their memories. The only way we can ever empathize ( or remotely close to empathizing)  what they truly felt. Though some parts truly surprised me. I'll admit I never thought the officers guarding the camps could be considerate to anyone, I mean  anyone  , like how they had been with Lale. Them choosing who gets to live and who gets to die was all so random. The survivors are truly luckily in every sense. And this story throws light on how the war changes people. You see so much of death, that it doesn't move you anymore. And you do what you have to, to survive. You become selfish, if that's the way you survive. I simply...
