The Death Cure (The Maze Runner #3)

I AM SPEECHLESS.
Okay, this review will take long as I didn't review TMR and TST too well as I was too impatient to read the next one.
Since TDC is the end of the trilogy, here goes my review.
When I first read TMR, all I did was cry at the end of every chapter. I just couldn't imagine living in the place Thomas did. In the beginning when he tries to recall his parent's face, his siblings - if he had any - and his school. My heart numbed already. You see, I was imagining myself in Thomas's place.
And that sucked.
I didn't have any idea what the story was about in the beginning. Nobody even volunteered to answer poor Thomas's endless questions, and honestly, I was screaming with frustration along with him too.
When the story started getting clear, I could get a good picture of it, and asked myself. Why on earth would these creators - whoever they are - do any such thing to poor souls? I boiled with fury along with Thomas.
Oh, well. I was inside Thomas!
The idea of Grievers made me cringe, the idea of those few people dying - even before they regained their memories, even before they escaped the maze - made me sob in the corner.
The question was WHYY.
It all sorted out soon.
I stopped crying during Alby's sacrifice. He suffered in the maze for two years and since his changing, all he ever thought was that the maze's life is better than the world outside.
Why?
His sacrifice made me think. Was he so desperate to give himself away to those grievers rather than fight to live the life of the world? What on earth is actually going on outside?
It was Flare, as we found out soon. And even before that, one thing made my heart crumple into pieces and I am still not over it yet. I won't even will. After the escape of the maze..
Chuck's death.
I stared at the page for so long apparently I could never believe that such thing had happened. He was so sweet, so innocent, so sincere. All he wanted was to go back to normal world and be kissed goodnight from his mother, go to school, live his life.
Thomas had promised him to make sure he lives it. Honestly that was so heart-breaking. Till the end of TDC, since Thomas never forgot Chuck, I never did too. His death's pain carried by Thomas, was carried by me too. He missed Chuck so much. I missed him more.
Oh, Chuck. I'll make sure Dashner regrets killing you one day.
Now comes TST and a fresh new start of the trials. The Scorch, the flare.
Now I knew how horrible this thing was, but not as horrible to start loving the maze, to be honest. These zombie thingies rose the hair on my arms. Few twist and turns surprised me. And ALL I wanted was to know how on earth this is even gonna get solved? What is the cure of the flare? I never, ever thought Dashner will punch me with his ideas on my face like this, during TDC. Almost all of Thomas's reactions and mine were mutual. He ran, I did. He screamed, I did too. He cried, I did three.
In the end my only curiosity was to know how on earth WICKED would be accomplished in saving the human race.
And then.. comes TDC.
I am gonna make it short, there are million things to type about, but I would like them to be in my mind, rather here.
So.. the title. What does it make sense about? Cure. The DEATH Cure. How on earth he represented the death's cure in this book I have no idea.
The beginning was usual. Crank cranks cranky cranks and nothing else. I kept biting my nails waiting for the point where the cure will be out, everybody will be saved - including newt, who got the flare - and some boy like Chuck, can relive his life again and happy ending!
THANKS DASHNER, I owe you. I owe my salty tears which never stop. You killed Newt? That Newt who was apparently the Glue? Made everybody stick together when everything was falling apart? Who was Thomas's only supporter, true supporter from the beginning? That Newt who loved his friends more than
anybody else? I knew it. Knew Dashner would disappoint me. Minho and Newt were such important in this trilogy, and one of them is gone.
My tiny gratitude there, to make Minho make it till the end.
It was Thomas's feeling which broke me more. Newt wasn't killed. He just gave up. And I kept hoping and hoping that there will be a cure out, and he will be saved. Well, thanks again, Dashner.
Thanks for the last sane goodbye from Newt in his letter. Thanks for the hatred he showed to Thomas before he gave up his life, or rather made Thomas give him up. And.. Minho doesn't even know about this. Even until the end. His two years of friendship all ruined by this flare. I never hated a disease this much. Who
killed not just Newt, but a mother, a father, some uncle, some aunt. Who all lived a happy life once, which was totally ruined later.
I hated it.
As I realized the pages decreasing in pace, my anger transformed to panic. Just a couple of pages left, is there even a cure? I read with such speed to know what'll be happening, until.. Teresa's death.
There you go, Dashner. Chuck, Newtt.. now Teresa?
She was Thomas's first best friend! They both lived their life together more than Thomas ever did with anyone. This was utter u.n.p.r.e.d.i.c.t.a.b.l.e.
I hated Teresa in between just like how Thomas did. But, her death, no.. her dying suddenly made me forgave her and all I wanted was Thomas childhood best friend to be back to him.
No, she died.
It was not her fault, whatever she did. Whatever that made her friendship with Thomas weaken so more. Her sacrifice ultimately showed her love for him. But, sadly he didn't return. Just for what WICKED made her do. All she wanted was at least a best friend back. To repay for what she did. And result?
She dies.
Just 1% to be done, and I was sure that this book will end with a disappointment, and it did! Thomas, with JUST Minho, Frypan, Brenda and - Was Jorge there too? - in a paradise. Living happily ever after. Leaving behind all the Cranks out there to suffer, and make the not-infected humans to eventually suffer and die
and get extinct until no one except Munies remain.
LIKE WHAT
WICKED is down. Comes the EPILOGUE from Chancellor Paige. I already hate Epilogues, and this one made me hate it more.
GUESS WHAT. The Flare was started by the Government! Like, this statement deserves a standing ovation, doesn't it? Govt. started this to reduce the ever increasing population? And blaming the so called sunflares for this virus, when it was there OWN GOVT. destroying, in fact extincting the whole mankind army.
And Oh? they even felt guilty and wanted to catch a couple of Immunes, wipe their memories, dump them in the maze and torture them and taking the blueprints JUST to make a cure and wipe the mistake they triggered? You serious? And ULTIMATELY no cure could be found? Ridiculous.
Those children, woman, men, old people, all suffering from the flare, going past the gone and killing each other until no one remains.. does this thought makes it a happy ending? The Immunes out there in their paradise, happy and safe, accepting the fate of Cranks and hoping to start a new generation with nobody suffering from Flare.. does THIS makes it a happy ending?
Like, what happened to that moment when Thomas was looking at the flare poster and an Idea clicked his mind! I absolutely thought Thomas would come up with a likable solution with his memory, or idea, or whatever.
But Dashner disappointed me very deeply.
Thomas and Minho didn't even regain their memories. Forget about Thomas, Minho didn't even knew where he was from, what his real name was, how his parents were like, nothing.
Does this makes it a happy ending?
I might rate it 5 for now, because this made me cry buckets, and fiction world forced me to rate books by the amount of tears flow through my eyes.
I can't help it.
Though I can tell one thing, even If I do read TMR series ever again, there maybe moans and groans and sighs and more tears, but definitely not a smile.
You see, Dashner. I won;t pick up the series with a smile anymore.
Thank you.
P.S. : You should be grateful I didn't write this review in caps. Whoever reads this, kindly imagine me screaming every phrase in the top of my voice. Okay? Okay.
P.P.S. : You were completely right, Dashner. WICKED is good, lol.
