Sea Prayer

Image
Sea Prayer by   Khaled Hosseini ,  Dan Williams   (Illustrator) My Rating: 5/5 Genre: Poetry Fiction, War Finished on: 31st Dec, 2020 Sea Prayer By Khaled Hosseini There isn't much to say about this book. A few pages. A short story. One can only glide over the poetic words, skim over the illustrations. And once done, we can pull our head back, close our eyes, and feel the rhythm of our broken hearts. This book is dedicated to the thousands of refugees who have perished at sea fleeing war and persecution. As said earlier, there isn't much to say about this book. There isn't much to do either. The one thing which we can do is pray. All I can do is pray.  ‌Because you, you are precious cargo, Marwan, the most precious there ever was. I pray the sea knows this. Inshallah. We pray the sea knows this. All we can do is pray.

Ghost Boys

Image
Ghost Boys By  Jewell Parker Rhodes My Rating: 5/5 Genre: Children-Fic, Historical Fic Finished on: 30th Dec, 2020 This is yet another book which I picked after coming to know my cousin is teaching to her students. And although this book is for children, it holds a deeper meaning. And in my personal opinion I feel everyone should read such books at least once in their life. This isn't just a story, but it's about prevailing injustice and racism which has become so common in our lives. It's important to understand that. It's important to realise that. And much more than that, it's important to raise our voices against it. So we avoid this from happening to anyone in the future. ____________________________________________________ The protagonist in this story is a kid named Jerome . He passes away in the month of Jan. When a policeman mistook the boy to be a dangerous man who has the intention to harm police, and in the attempt to defend themselves, they open fire....

The Green Book

Image
The Green Book by   Jill Paton Walsh My Rating: 3/5 Genre: Sci Fi, Children-fic Finished on: 16th Dec, 2020 I picked up this one when I came to know my cousin is teaching this story to her students in school. And well, there's always a child residing in me. At that point, the title seemed catchy and I thought, why not give it a try? And like any children's book, this was short and sweet. Something with which we can sit and ponder upon with our imaginative minds. ____________________________________________________ So basically the place where they used to live, the Earth, is dying. So they are all set to travel outer space in search of another, livable home. And the next day we all went away, Father and Joe, and Sarah, and Pattie, and lots of other families, and left the Earth far behind. Pattie is the protagonist here, through which we live this book. They finally do reach a planet though, and it wasn't quite normal unlike their previous home. Grass made of glass cut thro...

The Long Fall

Image
The Long Fall By Julia Crouch My Rating: 4/5 Genre: Thriller, Mystery Finished on: 14th Dec, 2020 I'm writing this review almost 2 months after having finished this one. So here's hoping I really do enough justice to it while recalling what all happened in the story, and how I felt about it. Really hoping that. This book was bit of a challenge while picking up, as my sister read few chapters & vowed never to pick it up again. That got me curious, of course. What really happened that my sister now wishes to never read a book again? I don't blame her. Once I started, I did get her point. But, trust me. As I kept going on, I really got hooked to the story and it was difficult for me to put down Because I just wanted to know what even happened? ____________________________________________________ The book was divided into 3 parts. The first had stories of two timelines, one based in 1980 and the other 33 years later, 2013. The second part was entirely based on the past - 1...

Ruin and Rising (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy #3)

Image
Ruin and Rising (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy #3) By  Leigh Bardugo My Rating: 4 Genre: YA, Fantasy Finished on: 8th Dec, 2020 Okay, so finally done with the trilogy! Like any other series/duologies/trilogies, even for this one by the end of this book I must say I got attached to the characters. The moment I was done I had to open Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom and see where all the characters of this trilogies were mentioned. I could only clearly recall Genya, Zoya and Sturmhond (aka Nikolai 😉  ) as they came as part of Grisha Triumvirate (David excluded), and I also could recall Alina was "mentioned" in the book, but I couldn't remember the context at all 😂 And good for me! As there was a tiny bit of spoiler present, which wass a significant one, which would have set my gears running since the beginning had I proudly registered that in my mind.  Glad I didn't. :P So let's get to the story first, then I'll come up with some of my reactions when I DID rea...
