The Couple Next Door
The Couple Next Door

What a book it was! Nicely written. Got me hooked from the first page itself. Although it got predictable at the end, but I am still impressed.
In the beginning their story just didn't add up. Front door being open when fresh new tracks of a car's tyre were found at the back of the house? The first lead was of the neighbours behind their house who saw a car passing by at 12:35. And when there were no new tracks of shoes apart from Marco's, I guess we all knew something was wrong right here.
I liked the fact that this entire book was very calculative, I assumed something thinking thaaaaat might definitely be the case, but at the same time I'll come across the author making the characters in the book come up with the same assumption and that'll leave me restless. They can't just assume it in the book so early if it was true. If it isn't, then WHAT is the actual truth?!
Both the parents were suspects at some point or the other in the book. Anne for accidentally killing her due to her illness and Marco for kidnapping.
He definitely might have kidnapped, since only his footsteps were found at the back.
Question was about his motives. Why, why did he do that? Surprisingly the answer was revealed halfway through the book. That was surprising too. What the heck is the next half of the book about then? 😅
The ultimate criminal turning out to be Anne's stepfather was a surprise. I didn't see that coming. Except for Alice, no character in the book were truly like how they seemed to be.
Anne turned out to be suffering from some disassociate disorder.
Marco kidnapped the baby.
Richard planned it all.
Graham was part of the idea to install the camera outside for their own inappropriate desires.
Cynthia was involved in all. The camera, knowing who kidnapped the baby. And heck being part of a plan to get the money for herself as well.
Now that everything was revealed, there was still a chapter left for me to read. What could possibly be left?
Alas, the end of the witch who unknowingly brought Anne's illness back. And the same illness became the cause of her death in the end.
Hm, how poetic.
TL;DR
One of the good mystery books I have read!
