Wow! Good one.
I've read mystery books with perspective of a detective, police, but this was completely in view of a lawyer. In view of law!
I honestly enjoyed reading throughout. I had my assumptions and wanted very badly to know if I was right..
I wasn't though :'D

I suspected it to be murder. And for Anna to be the murderer, while Rusty is trying very hard to defend her.
You ask me why? Because.. Idk. There was absolutely no role of her as soon as the trial started. So I suspected maybe the author doesn't want us to think of her, when she has been the culprit all along?
And I thought it kinda makes sense. Barbara knows about the relationship, and Anna very badly wanted Nat and her relationship to not break whatsoever. So maybe she decided to remove her from the path, so that none of that happens?
Even the computer card, they subtly mentioned how it was Anna who stayed there for one hour, although she wasn't around the computer most of the time. But still. Could it be her? It could be.
And even Rusty readily took the blame, either assuming it could be Nat or Anna who put the card. Mostly Anna though. As she could be having a purpose.

But.. None of that happened, and the casual reveal that it had been Brand who did that, who put the card.. Wow.
Never thought he'd stoop so low.
By this time I was wondering if everything has been revealed or is there something left?
Rusty is released from the jail and Father-Son meets. When Rusty confronted Anna and asked her if she suspected him, and her casual answer that she didn't, I'm like...  Okay. So. It wasn't Anna. And it's really a suicide case.
My assumptions were completely wrong.
But never mind, the journey full of excitement to know the truth is what matters.
And the ending was sweet too. Anna and Rusty both realized what jerks they were. Nat finally came to know the truth of what really happened, and came to terms with it.

And well, they all moved on.
Poor Nat, though. When he realized in the court that his mom knew about his father's affair, he said one thing right. No matter how this trial ends, one thing will be clear, his father's affair was directly or Indirectly the cause of her death. And that was true.

Barbara didn't deserve this, her casual suicide in the middle of planned murder was a surprise. This tells how much disturbed she has been in her life, that she decided to take her life in seconds, when all along she been planning her husband's murder. And not hers.
And casually goes to sleep.. Knowing she won't wake up again.
No wonder Rusty spent 24 hours just analyzing and understanding all this.

Understanding that Barbara knew about his affair. She planned his murder and asked him to get the stuff to eat which might kill him with the pill she's planning to give him. Searched on his computer, and asked him to have the pills, only for her to consume them in the end as she realized he figured it out, I mean.. What!

One thing Rusty should do, have this realization forever that he has been a jerk. Even Anna.
And one thing I should be doing, is to rate this book a 4, as I absolutely enjoyed reading this :)
