Story of Your Life By  Ted Chiang My Rating: 5/5 Genre: Sci Fi Finished on: 23rd May, 2021 The Story Of Your Life By Ted Chiang   One fine day me and my sister were choosing which movie to watch on weekend, and as anyone might guess from reading this review, it was the Arrival. Which is based on this book. I watched the movie, loved every bit of it, and there was absolutely no way I was missing out on a chance to read the book upon finding out the movie was based on it. So, here we are.  I had always been fascinated with time travel theories. And the concept in this one simply blew my mind. This book didn't just mess with time, but it ALSO made us all realize the beauty of being multi lingual. It introduced the concept of Sapir Whorf hypothesis! Or in other words Linguistic Relativity. Just. Simply. Amazing. ____________ There were slight differences in the book and movie.  In the movie we had to use our brains to find out what's really happening. But, in ...

1984 By  George Orwell My Rating: 4/5 Genre: Sci Fi, Dystopia Finsihed on: 13th Apr 2021 1984 By George Orwell The infamous dystopian book which I had not picked up so far. Until now.  Without having any idea what this book could be about, I pondered for few moments regarding the expectations I'll be having. 1984. It's an year, obviously, but what is the significance of this year? Is it a historical fiction? War based? What happened in 1984? It was until much later that I realised the genre of this book is actually Dystopia. And it was not the question of " What " happened in 1984.. But, " how " was 1984? ________ Part One: Winston Smith. He's 39.  The beginning of the story gives us an idea of how the life of the protagonist is like BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU Who is this big brother? No one knows. Yet. And then the infamous chants throughout the book WAR IS PEACE. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH Yeah, sounds contradictory, I know. But these ...

Sea Prayer

Sea Prayer by   Khaled Hosseini ,  Dan Williams   (Illustrator) My Rating: 5/5 Genre: Poetry Fiction, War Finished on: 31st Dec, 2020 Sea Prayer By Khaled Hosseini There isn't much to say about this book. A few pages. A short story. One can only glide over the poetic words, skim over the illustrations. And once done, we can pull our head back, close our eyes, and feel the rhythm of our broken hearts. This book is dedicated to the thousands of refugees who have perished at sea fleeing war and persecution. As said earlier, there isn't much to say about this book. There isn't much to do either. The one thing which we can do is pray. All I can do is pray.  ‌Because you, you are precious cargo, Marwan, the most precious there ever was. I pray the sea knows this. Inshallah. We pray the sea knows this. All we can do is pray.

Ghost Boys

Ghost Boys By  Jewell Parker Rhodes My Rating: 5/5 Genre: Children-Fic, Historical Fic Finished on: 30th Dec, 2020 This is yet another book which I picked after coming to know my cousin is teaching to her students. And although this book is for children, it holds a deeper meaning. And in my personal opinion I feel everyone should read such books at least once in their life. This isn't just a story, but it's about prevailing injustice and racism which has become so common in our lives. It's important to understand that. It's important to realise that. And much more than that, it's important to raise our voices against it. So we avoid this from happening to anyone in the future. ____________________________________________________ The protagonist in this story is a kid named Jerome . He passes away in the month of Jan. When a policeman mistook the boy to be a dangerous man who has the intention to harm police, and in the attempt to defend themselves, they open fire....
